Oz Metal royalty, Superheist return with new single, 'Medicated'

Australian metal royalty, Superheist have finally delivered the highly anticipated first single titled ‘Medicated’ off the upcoming 6th studio album ‘MMXX’ due for release on July 1 through Black Mountain Music/ MGM.

After the departure of former frontman, Ezekiel Ox in 2019, the band chose not to search for a new singer and took vocal duties upon themselves. Guitarist and founding member dw Norton and the band’s longest-serving bass player Si Durrant share the task and by all accounts deliver the goods!

Employing a classic drum n bass beat, partnered with an ominous-yet-dark clean guitar riff, it’s not long before ‘Medicated’ slams you sideways with a layered, chunky riff. The vinyl pause/rewind sample gives a sly nod to Superheist’s more nu-metal past, and the mood-change at 2:47 mixed with a loop lulls the listener, before the dirty, sludgified version of the main groove breaks the flow, and we’re back in to thick riffville. DW and Si sharing vocal duties covers the lack of a dedicated frontman, of which the band has had some charismatic and vocally-recognisable types. It’s still the thick, aggressive, groove-laden Superheist we’ve known; it’s just the next phase.

‘Medicated’ delivers a perfect blend of brutal and melody, and whets the palette for all ‘Heist faithful, as it sets the tone for what to expect from the re-invented Superheist and their new upcoming album MMXX.

Superheist’s MMXX will be out 1 July 2022 and will be available on CD, Vinyl, Digital download and stream from all major digital streaming platforms.

‘Medicated’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
