Melbourne's Thea FitzGerald completes her soulful journey with release of her EP, 'Falling Forward'

Fresh off the back of her latest single, Melbourne singer-songwriter Thea FitzGerald has released her 3rd EP ‘Falling Forward’; a 6-track body of work that flutters between soulful pop and R&B.

Once again, Thea guides us into her world of jazz-fused glossy RnB, this time the journey is complete with the full six tracks showcasing the different shades of her catalogue.

Previous singles, the sassy ‘Good Like That’, and the optimistic, gospel-inspired ‘Way Up’ were already showcasing the big beats, the tinkling keys, and Thea’s confident, soulful vocals, but add in to the mix the more synth-y ‘Need Me’, the sultry ‘Forward’ plus the heavily vocal-layered intro, ‘Noise’, and closer, ‘Outro’ which is a beautifully harmonious, reverb-drenched vocal take that serves as a reminder that the path to self-love is an enigmatic journey.

In a sea of disposable-pop, and ASMR-focused blandness, Thea FitzGerald has brought something much bigger and bolder in ‘Falling Forward’. To show proper vocal ability, and not focus in on current sound trends is a brave move for an artist, and we’re all here for it.

‘Falling Forward’ is a beautifully holistic and emotionally charged record about perseverance and doing the best you can at any given moment. It travels through the evolution of self-love and acceptance, exploring various emotional encounters along the way.

More than ever, Thea FitzGerald’s writing throughout the EP is brilliantly direct and relatable, with words that are elegant and organic delivered in Thea’s free-flowing vocals. With songs produced by SB90 (‘Way Up’ & ‘Good Like That’) and Michael Cooper (‘Forward & Need Me’), the EP is a mix of soul, pop and R&B, defined by striking trumpets from Daniel Woodhouse (House of Wood).

The Melbourne musician has grown up on a diet of Paul Kelly, The Pretenders, Crowded House and Tina Arena, and with such a heavy roster of strong, harmonious story-tellers, it is quite easy to see that it has become ingrained into Thea’s artistry.

This EP has so many interesting textures and layers, and is meant to be played on a big system, or at the least, decent headphones to truly do it justice, so you best be doing that to fully appreciate this gem.

‘Falling Forward’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
