Gold Coast's The Vultures steam up the dance floor with synth-heavy smooth indie disco single, 'Conversations'

Gold Coast’s The Vultures take their indie-rock sounds, and make them disco ready to honour the end of summer with their new single, ‘Conversations’.

‘Conversations’ is airy, but tight. That guitar/bass/drum groove is locked in so tight, which lets the atmospheric synths float around like a hazy cloud of smoke in an 80s nightclub. While clearly showing nostalgic nods to eighties disco-pop/synth-pop, The Vultures give the track modern flair, particularly in the phaser-heavy bridge. All the sounds and textures make way for the smooth, breathy, and at times, falsetto vocals from vocalist Liam Bowditch, which swirl and swagger. While there’s a sense of cheesiness, it’s an endearing and strengthening feature of ‘Conversations’.

A product of lifelong collaborators Bowditch and Joe Bon MacPhail, The Vultures have developed a knack for blending modern synths, heavy riffs and nostalgic disco-pop into dance floor ready grooves. Showing influences from Holy Holy and Harry Styles, The Vultures have said the single was inspired by the intense isolation of the 2020 lockdowns.

“‘Conversations’ is about turning to dreams as a mode of communication at the emergence of a newly chaotic world, separated from our family, friends, and the outside,’ they said.

In addition to releasing 'Conversations', the band has created an entirely captivating and complimentary video clip - a psychedelic dreamscape that immortalises the narrative of the single and The Vulture's personal style. "The video is a sleek retro green screen throwback of trippy visuals, mirroring the concepts and vibe of the music," explains The Vultures.

Working towards releasing their debut album ESCOBAR in 2022, Bowditch and MacPhail will be playing a single launch show on Thursday 17 March at the Gold Coast's, Mo's Desert Clubhouse.

What's more, the impressive twosome has already been nominated at the Gold Coast Music Awards for Single of The Year and received the award for Most Innovative Music Video at the Australian Independent Music Video Awards. They caught attention for their previous release 'If You Only Knew Your Way', amassing over 58k streams on Spotify and being added to the notable Fresh Finds Rock playlist. The single's corresponding film clip was also celebrated on MTV upload.

If this latest single proves anything, it's that the conversation about The Vultures has just begun.

‘Conversations’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
