Melbourne-based alt-pop trio SILT have returned with a dreamy, indie track in the new single, ‘I Always Need A Break’.

Since debuting in 2019, SILT have showcased their dynamic blend of alt-pop and indie-rock over 4 singles. After spending the first half of this year back in the studio with producer Jimi Lloyd-Wyatt at Ginger Studios, they are now working their way towards their debut EP which will be released later this year.

It’s a stunning, building track, building with a heartbeat and a swirl of delay-drenched guitar, while vocalist Jess Polain’s vocals surround and enchant. Drums shuffle and switch to driving tom beats, and synths arpeggiate before a climactic dynamic at the half-point. For an alt-pop/indie track this has elements of prog sneaking in; close your eyes at the halfway mark and it feels like you’re taking of a solo intergalactic flight, before floating back to Earth.

This is a taste of what is to come from SILT’s debut EP…

This vulnerable, moving track feels big and powerful which is fitting when this song is about taking back the power after being made to feel small.

Polain states: “Some people just have a way of making you feel small and quiet. When I find myself lost for words when it comes to expressing or standing up for myself in the moment, there is always a level of discontentment and frustration right under the surface. So this song is really cathartic in that way!”

SILT have a big second half of the year ahead of them and to kick it off 'I Always Need A Break’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
