Brisbane-based songwriter, Aspy Jones has shifted from the more alt-country/roots tones, and embraced the hustle and bustle of the city with his new release, ‘Mind Arrest’ - a poignant and lyrically-driven track that explores themes of escapism and dives into raw emotion.

‘Mind Arrest’ sees Aspy, an advocate for mental health and sharing his personal journey living with autism, fire up and combine vulnerability with rock, making for an unforgettable release for the songwriter.

Steering towards a closer, more lo-fi blues sound, with an attitude-driven swagger, the slight delays, and fuzz bass, bring to mind listening to similar sounds on vinyl from the seventies. There’s no over-produced drums and extra layers, which makes for a refreshing sound while summoning nostalgia.

Written by Aspy Jones and produced by Paulie Bromley, the rock tinged track honours Aspy's folk roots and looks toward a new era for the singer/songwriter. Landing funding through the Regional Development Scheme and Arts Queensland, Jones' recognition of dedication and hard work by both industry and his hometown state of Queensland showcases one of many career highlights held by the performer.

Steering in an alternative direction, Aspy Jones showcases a bold sound, with waves of electric guitar front centre complemented by true to heart lyrical themes. Written during his teenage years, Jones breaks the mental health stigma and paints an honest picture of the struggles he faced during those times.

"I'm sure I'm not the only one who had difficult teenage years. The song is about wanting to escape how you're feeling but you're trapped by your own emotions” says Aspy.

Inspired by an eclectic taste in genres, Jones draws influence from Mumford and Sons to the classics such as Billy Joel to David Bowie, all showcasing a songwriting depth that can be heard in Jones' own style.

Carrying major music accolades under his belt including performance at Gympie Music Muster and Tamworth Country Festival, Jones is now taking the stage at the Music Is Life Festival this coming July. Set for a big year of releases, Mind Arrest marks the beginning of an exciting new era of Aspy Jones that the music industry is ready for!
