Nonberk captivate and 'Hypnotise' with groove-heavy new single.

Brisbane-based trio Nonberk know how to hit hard in all the right places, and with their latest single they’ve gone straight for the jugular. ‘Hypnotise’ is a mammoth rock track that’s picking influences from any 90s teenage metalhead’s CD collection.

Straight off the bat, ‘Hypnotise’ sounds like if ‘Freakshow’-era Silverchair had listened to Pantera’s ‘Vulgar Display of Power’ with the thick clicky kick drum, and almost Dimebag-like squeals, and a Daniel Johns-ish vocal take from bassist/vocalist Zaac Thompson.

The new single is the first taste of a more matured Nonberk, following up on their debut album (released just before COVID, in February 2020), and shows a band more comfortable in their roles. While there’s still fat grooves to be had, which were ever present on their first approach, it’s a neater, less-abrasive yet still heavy sound that Nonberk are bringing.

At over five minutes in length, it’s a brave choice for a single, but press play, crank it loud, and wait for those sneaky Dimebag-turned-Morello guitar squeals near the end that will have any groove-metal fan grinning ear to ear.
