Brisbane besties WALKEN have sprinted into 2020, dropping their brand new banger "Regular Human Person" today and backing it up with an Australian tour - their first in nearly two years!

“Regular Human Person” is the first piece of new music from the trio since the release of their 2017 EP, What’s Your Environment?. An instantly familiar bop, “Regular Human Person” dabbles in the kind of alternative/pop-punk hybrid fuelled by layers of frenzied pop and soaked in nostalgia.

Lyrically, “Regular Human Person” explores vocalist/songwriter Matt Cochran's casual relationship with a powerful woman that knew what she wanted and went after it, and the song is a fun retelling of that with some tongue-in-cheek lyrics and pop culture references thrown in.

For a deeper explanation, over to Matt: "I vividly remember writing the song in about 10 minutes one afternoon when the riff and hook popped into my head after a long day at work. I was going through a strong musical phase of listening to Car Seat Headrest, Jeff Rosenstock, Harvey Danger and The Cribs, which I think really shines through in certain parts of the song."

“It seems like the mundane task of working a long shift at a job I hated really made me want to write something playful and exciting, rather than coping with things by writing the typical existentialist content I usually do,” he continues. “It’s funny how it usually goes one way or the other for me when writing, I don’t think there’s ever really a middle ground – it’s usually lyrically heavy and somewhat cryptic or stupidly cheery and direct.”

Originally meeting each other through a countless number of gigs in old Brisbane bands, the three best pals from WALKEN soon formed a new project of their own and moved into a share house together. Comprised of Matt Cochran (Vocals/Guitar), Patrick Shipp (Guitar/Backing Vocals) and Beej Vaughan (Drums/Backing Vocals), WALKEN spent a steady few years supporting numerous domestic icons like Violent Soho, Luca Brasi, DZ Deathrays and Tired Lion while self-releasing a bunch of singles and EPs.

Last spied on stage at Good Things Festival, as well as multiple QLD dates supporting The Bennies, WALKEN will kick off 2020 with Regular Human People headline tour down the east coast, with some support slots for Dopamine and Ali Barter and mini festivals appearances at Hot Tropics #4 and the Hottest 100 Countdown party along the way. The boys will be road testing a bunch of new tunes too before heading into the studio to record their long-awaited debut later in the year. Don’t miss it!

Catch Walken at their single release at Solbar on January 31st with Perve Endings, June, and Wetlands.
