Bobby Alu has released a brilliant film clip to coincide with his new single ‘Fire’, a tropical harmony-laden ode to finding momentum.

“Fire is about good flow", Bobby explains of the single which premiered with Zan Rowe on Double J Mornings yesterday. "Searching inside yourself to find the courage to push your energy into things you love. Instead of finding discomfort and fear, you find power and fire. I love these moments and when I started writing this song I was searching for that fire in myself again. This made me realise when this type of feeling comes by, it’s time to strike and make most of the goodness."

The sunny single arrives a week ahead of showcase performances at BIGSOUND before Alu jets straight to Denver to support Xavier Rudd across the US and Canada. Upon his return he hits the road again in October and November nationally with Queensland story-masters Busby Marou.

Alongside the new single comes the announcement of Bobby Alu’s third album titled Flow, set for release on Friday 18th October. Four years in the making with producer and key collaborator Paulie Bromley (george, The Beautiful Girls), it was written as Alu traversed the globe in his former role as Xavier Rudd’s touring percussionist and as a man on a quest to explore the vibe at the heart of the record – flow.

“We all love watching people in their state of flow,” he says. “Whether it's a dancer, a surfer, a basketballer, a builder, or someone working a coffee machine. It’s that moment when there’s nothing in your head - you are at ease - almost like an out-of-body experience. As we get older and add to the clutter in our minds this simplicity becomes more elusive. This album is a tribute to the concept of flow – when it’s good, when its bad, and the realisation and acceptance that it all works together.”

From Sardinia to Ghana, Indonesia to Hawaii, Alu puzzled together the songs, taking inspiration from his Samoan heritage, old-school Jamaica, drum intensives and rhythm diamonds, Tahitian ukulele, and even Dr Seuss. Building on foundations of island-time charm and serious Polynesian-flavoured percussion chops, already released cuts ‘Move’, ‘Other Side’ and ‘Finally’ that have enjoyed Double J and ABC Local Radio adds and praise from the likes of EARMILK.

\With a uke in hand and chiller vibes in tow, Bobby Alu is ready to send a positive flow across the pond and ignite the hearts of his fans at his upcoming live shows.
