Vulpes Argenteus Enters a New Phase with Dance-Driven Single Like Gold
South East Queensland’s Vulpes Argenteus returns in 2026 with Like Gold—a track that doesn’t just continue the project’s trajectory, but subtly redraws it.
Where earlier releases leaned into layered, abstract alt-pop, Like Gold strips things back and opens them up. Built on a driving kick and shimmering synth work, the track leans confidently toward the dancefloor—without sacrificing the emotional core that defines the project.
There’s a noticeable shift in delivery, too. The vocal, tinged with echoes of David Bowie, sits more comfortably in the mix—less wordy, more intentional—letting repetition and space do the heavy lifting.
At its heart, Like Gold is a love song—but not in the obvious sense. Written for the artist’s wife, it explores the idea of seeing someone beyond the weight of their past. The central metaphor—“buried under dirt”—pulls double duty, reflecting both emotional trauma and the discovery of something rare and valuable.
“I wanted it to feel personal, but not exclusive,” Vulpes Argenteus explains. “It’s about recognising someone’s worth—even when they can’t see it themselves.”
Musically, the track pulls from the electronic textures of Tijuana Cartel and Planet Funk, while the groove-first approach aligns with long-standing influences like Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada.
It’s a natural progression. With a stronger focus on rhythm, feel, and low-end movement, Like Gold signals a new phase for Vulpes Argenteus—one that feels more assured, more direct, and ultimately, more fun.
The release also lands on May 4—coinciding with the artist’s wedding anniversary—quietly reinforcing the personal weight behind a track that already trades in emotional clarity.
