Vulpes Argenteus Finds Freedom On Two Wheels With New Single ‘Just Ride’
Australian alternative electronic pop project Vulpes Argenteus returns with ‘Just Ride’, a bass-driven collision of dance-floor energy, electronic production and rock attitude.
There are some things you can't think your way out of. Sometimes you just need to get on the bike, twist the throttle, and go.
That's the idea behind ‘Just Ride’, the latest single from Australian solo project Vulpes Argenteus, the musical outlet of multi-instrumentalist and seasoned collaborator Rhys Fox.
Following the more dance-focused direction established with 2026's ‘Like Gold’, ‘Just Ride’ pushes that sound further while bringing some of Fox's alternative-rock history back into the mix. Bass-heavy grooves and electronic textures drive the track forward, while guitars and a harder-edged attitude give it a distinctly rockier feel.
Lyrically, ‘Just Ride’ captures the mental release that comes from getting out on two wheels.
“Riding gives me a similar feeling to what I used to get from surfing,” says Fox. “I grew up around the coast and when I moved away from that environment, I lost that feeling. Riding has brought some of it back. It doesn't really matter where I'm going or how long I'm out for — there's just that feeling of movement and freedom.”
There's also a small personal Easter egg buried in the lyrics, with the opening verse containing a reference to the particular motorcycle Fox rides.
The song itself has been a long time coming. Originally written before ‘Like Gold’, ‘Just Ride’ began life as a reworking of a riff from an earlier alternative-rock project Fox had been involved with. The original idea stayed with him, eventually being stripped back, lyrically reworked and rearranged before finding its place in the evolving Vulpes Argenteus sound.
“It sat in my song sketches for about twelve months,” Fox explains. “I'd open it up, change the structure, move lyrics around and then leave it again. At one point it felt too rock, too wordy, and I didn't really know where to take it. After working out what I wanted to do with ‘Like Gold’, I came back to it and suddenly the pieces started fitting.”
The result is a track that sits between the dance floor and the open road — energetic without being about racing, and restless without ever losing its groove.
“It's not really about speed,” says Fox. “It's about the feeling. You can ride alone, which I generally prefer, but when you pass another rider and give that little nod because you both know why you're out there, there's this sense of camaraderie without any commitment. You're both chasing the same feeling.”
Produced and mixed by Fox, ‘Just Ride’ features bass, guitar, synths, beats and vocals all performed by the multi-instrumentalist, with mastering completed by Paul Blakey at 12th and Vine.
The single continues a new chapter for Vulpes Argenteus. After three alt-pop releases in 2025 — ‘The View’, ‘STUMBLE’ and ‘DUPE’ — ‘Like Gold’ signalled a shift toward a more dance-floor focused sound, drawing influence from artists such as The Chemical Brothers and LCD Soundsystem. ‘Just Ride’ carries that evolution forward while allowing Fox's alternative-rock roots to push their way back into the mix.
Accompanying the release is a new piece of rough-edged artwork featuring the recurring Vulpes fox imagery — a visual nod to the project's name, Vulpes Argenteus, or “silver fox”. The deliberately imperfect, sketch-like aesthetic reflects the project's DIY/punk ethos: not polished for the sake of being polished, but allowed to retain its character and rough edges.
For Vulpes Argenteus, the destination isn't always clear.
Sometimes you just need to stop thinking, find the road, and ‘Just Ride’. The new single arrives on digital platforms from September 30th.
