Sunshine Coast songbird Darcy Kate releases loved-up alt-folk pop-rock single, 'Better Together'

Sunshine Coast’s songbird, Darcy Kate is on a roll with her third single of the year in the folk-tinged pop rock single, ‘Better Together’, which is out now.

‘Better Together’ wraps up the trio of singles, which started with ‘Let It Out’, followed by ‘Hand in Hand’, all telling the story of a couple navigating the highs and lows of a relationship. This latest single sees the couple ultimately uniting with the message that ‘we’re better together’.

Darcy Kate has never been shy about her Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac influence, and ‘Better Together’ definitely channels those smooth chord transitions and romanticism through and through. The layers of airy pads and arpeggiating synths thicken the already FM-ready sound, and Darcy’s vocal take leans more to the contemporary styling on this one - shifting slightly from the alt folk, and into more pop rock without a fuss. It’s loved-up nostalgia with modern bent.

Darcy conveys her feelings about connection and commitment in this punchy, sweet song with a driving kick drumbeat and Fleetwood Mac-esque guitar riffs throughout. Reminiscent of Sixpence None The Richer, and layered with harmonies and synths, Darcy’s lilting vocals deliver the fairytale ending that we all deserve.

Produced by Craig Ross at Roomuzik, ‘Better Together’ was mastered by Matthew Agoglia.

All three singles showcase the next phase, after Darcy’s debut album, ‘Wanderer’ from 2022, with Darcy still displaying the alt-folk stylings, but also embracing the more pop-side of her songwriting.

‘Better Together’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
