Chris Ah Gee gets downright steamy with soulful banger, 'Entwined'
Multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Chris Ah Gee returns with a brand new single, ‘Entwined’, which is out now.
‘Entwined’ is a step forward in to the smooth future funk sounds of Chris Ah Gee, which explores the culmination of two souls coming together to become one. The track dips hard in to Neo-RnB chord progressions, chunky textured lo-fi synths, smooth Rhodes keys, and tight rhythm section, coupled with silky productions a wall of vocal layers.
You know that old jazz adage from the legendary Miles Davis, ‘it’s not the notes you play, it’s the notes you don’t play.’? Listening to the start of ‘Entwined’, somehow Chris has managed to pull out a groove from notes that are not there. For the first minute of this track, there is the fattest groove that should not exist; ghosted notes between juicy bass and drums that are stuck on pause and release, with jazz guitar adding some extra tease, and Chris’ vocals stirring up some heat. It’s the kind of organic RnB groove that makes you need a shower after listening.
Add in some keyboard spices, and sticky harmonies, this all entwines just like the song says. Buckle in for three and a half minutes of dirty, steamy love-making music, which is what the world could do with right about now.
‘Entwined’ follows on from previous single, ‘It’s About Time’ (which featured a more pop-soul/hip hop sound), with both tracks having been recorded and mixed at the legendary Yama Nui Studio on the Sunshine Coast, working alongside Lord Tanuki (Paul Bromley) Stonewax Productions.
Chris Ah Gee’s sound heads in the direction of his influences, such as Anderson Paak, Bruno Mars and Frank Ocean.
‘Entwined’ is out now on to soak your ears in to via all digital streaming platforms.
