Brisbane's Maisy Taylor is truly enchanting on latest gem, 'Be My Baby'
Brisbane indie folk/pop songstress, Maisy Taylor has been enchanting audiences across the country with a sound and charm that is unequivocally hers, and she now has released her latest single, ‘Be My Baby’.
‘Be My Baby’ walks a fine line between alternative country and indie pop; had it not been for country-ish strums in the verses, and the more organic drums, this would’ve been another straight up cute indie pop track. But instead, Maisy has stayed true to her sound and crafted this gem of a track. Vocally, Maisy woos as well as soothes, blending a smooth vocal take and harmonies together over a dream-like layer of guitars. The sound coming out is not over-cooked, with a more natural tone (with the exception of the bridge section, which adds in some production tricks for a little spice). ‘Be My Baby’ is dreamy, charming, and comforting.
The 24-year old been carving out a unique place in the hearts of Australian music-lovers over the past few years, with her performances at Bello Winter Music Festival, and Fall Festival (Byron Bay) having been described as ‘the epitome of happiness on a grey day, with mischievous tones on lilting notes’.
Effortlessly blending elements of folk and pop in her song writing, “Be My Baby” sees Maisy soaring into uncharted territory, navigating the pop realm with assurance. The beautifully constructed indie pop-anthem explores the full range of her voice, resulting in a blissful sonic journey for the listener. Flushed with gorgeous harmonies and dainty melodic soundscapes, “Be My Baby” solidifies Maisy Taylor as an artist to watch in 2022.
“Be My Baby tells the tale of finding that perfect summer love and captures those feelings of infatuation in the early stages of a relationship. I was enchanted by the idea of a summer romance, and as February was coming to a close, I felt the pressure of another Summer ending without somebody to share it with.” Maisy Taylor
Lyrically, Maisy takes you on a melodic journey into the brain of a ‘twenty-something’ musician as she tries to figure out all things love, growing up, and where to go from here. In Maisy’s voice, there is a sense of calmness that is only found in a naturally born storyteller. “Be My Baby” surfaces moments of a private monologue to the listener, evoking feelings of longing and bliss in one picturesque delivery.
“Working with Hugh at Out With the In Studio we built the dreamy world that the song deserved, adding some spakle and shine to a sweet summer love song,” says Maisy.
‘Be My Baby’ was produced by ‘Pop Auteur’ Hugh Middleton (Hope D, Jaguar Jonze, Asha Jefferies), and follows on from previous singles ‘Homesick’ and ‘Things That I Can’t See’, which both received national radio play and saw Maisy perform to sold out crowds in intimate venues across Queensland. “Be My Baby” weaves anthemic choruses with stripped back and sensitive verses. Glowing guitars back Maisy’s honest declaration, providing a platform for Maisy’s melodies and lyricism to shine.
‘Be My Baby’, the latest from Maisy Taylor, is out now on all streaming platforms.
