Alvy Willa shares brand new infectious electro/synth-pop single, 'Let Her'

Sunshine Coast producer/songwriter Alvy Willa shares his first release for 2022 in the shape of electro-pop single, ‘Let Her’.

Swimming in synth textures, ‘Let Her’ glides along over cloud-like keys, a pulsing bass line, and an 80s-inspired heavy pop beat, which all guides Alvy Willa’s breathy falsetto to the big pop choruses. There’s a level of cuteness to the track, but in a celebratory way, backed by a cheeky guitar solo towards the closing section of the song.

Alvy Willa (real name Jayke Barnes, one third of Forrest Run, and one half of Willa Mai) says of ‘Let Her’ that it revolves around the theme of always dreaming of big things, the best things.

“It’s a hard subject to put completely in to words, but ‘Let Her’ is about learning that the mentality of fantasising might not serve you well, but in the moment it is almost like an addiction, and you eventually just accept that you are a dreamer,” he said.

‘Let Her’ was produced by Alvy Willa, along with Steve Thornely from Folklore, based in Brisbane’s West End. Alvy states that he has never been the only vocalist on a song before, and found it intimidating to have to record vocal takes with Steve.

“…however, Steve is really good at creating a space that felt comfortable. Multiple times I almost gave up trying to sing it, but he’s got great negotiating skills, and he managed to keep me going with it. I’m glad I did it; it’s a huge achievement for me to be singing on a track.”
