Brisbane's Tragic Me deliver alt-rock/pop-punk sophomore EP, 'OVERTHOUGHT'

Brisbane’s alt-rock/pop-punkers Tragic Me have been drip-feeding single after single, which now, with the release of their latest single, ‘Sorry’, all culminates in the four-track EP, ‘OVERTHOUGHT’.

Full of classic early 2000s pop-punk/emo tropes, from the sparkling keys, and dueting vocals, to the changes from epic alt-rock movements to punk beats, the track delivers a melancholy tale in contrast to its upbeat sound.

‘Sorry’ is the track the ties and completes the story that ‘OVERTHOUGHT’ tells (the tales of love, loss and memories that young adults navigate through during their transition from teenagers to adulthood), with the narrative of ‘Sorry’ reflecting on the consequences of the separation of friends or otherwise.

The EP opens with ‘For The Night’, a song that encapsulates the initial lust-filled phase experienced during the beginnings of a new connection. Following is ‘Dances Alone’, a captured expression of the bitter break-up so many have endured. ‘Take Me Back’ (which featured previously on The Point) happily reminisces on those golden days before life became so complicated, before ‘Sorry’ closes the book on the tales told.

“If you have ever had a whirlwind romance or had your heart broken, this EP is for you.” Frontman and lyricist Alex Thompson-Tark says.

For fans of The Band Camino, 5 Seconds of Summer and The 1975, Tragic Me’s wide range of collective songwriting inspirations result in memorable pop-adjacent anthems fuelled by an engine room of pop-punk grit.

At the beginning of 2020, Tragic Me were at a crossroads due to a line-up and style change, as well as the global pandemic forcing shows to a grinding halt. Deciding to use the time away from the stage to write more music, the band sat down with producer Josh Setterfield with a few voice memo ideas they had before the world went into lockdown. By the beginning of 2021, Tragic Me had a collection of songs that would ultimately become the heartbreaker EP, ‘OVERTHOUGHT’.

This EP is a must have in 2022, memorable and unique, confident and passionate, Tragic Me have created something special here and are running with it.

‘Sorry’ and ‘OVERTHOUGHT’ (EP) are both out today on all streaming platforms.
