PREMIERE - Newcastle's Bree Rusev stuns with new contemporary folk single, 'Dotted Lines'
Newcastle singer/songwriter Bree Rusev continues her run of contemporary rustic folk goodness with her brand new single, ‘Dotted Lines’ which is out today.
The 19-year old artist has been described as ‘one to watch’, and an ‘old soul’, displaying a lyrical maturity beyond her years, adding finger-picked acoustic melodies and a distinctive voice into the mix of an award-winning combination (Bree gained acclaim by taking out first place in the 2021 International Songwriting Competition - in the Teen Category - for her song, ‘Goodbye’).
‘Dotted Lines’s strength lies in the sparseness it presents from the get-go; relying on finger-picked acoustic, a pulsing kick, and Bree’s deceivingly sweet vocal. Little flourishes of extra vocal harmonies, a lazy horn, and some simple piano add just that extra boost to fatten out the choruses on each return, but you just know that Bree is capable of soaring vocally, but keeps it relaxed and flowing. Think of a younger Julia Stone with a touch of The Dreggs, and a little of Pierce Brothers energy and rawness, and that paints a fairly accurate picture of ‘Dotted Lines’.
Of the track (which was produced by Garrett Kato), Bree explains it was crafted when she was just fifteen years old.
‘The song is about that invisible line we often face in life when making decisions,” she said.
Not only gaining acclaim for her recorded works, Bree has also been making a name for herself on the live stage in 2022, having shared stages with Jack Botts (Lighthouse Festival, featuring headliner John Butler), as well as supporting Jordy Maxwell, and Fergus James, plus a sold-out show with festival touring faves, 19-Twenty.
Now is the time to dig deep in to Bree Rusev’s works.
‘Dotted Lines’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
