Wetlands smash through the veil of self-doubt with new single, 'Dail'
Brisbane’s alternative rock outfit, Wetlands, return with a brand new track, smashing through the veil of self-doubt and misery with new single, ‘Dail’.
Exhibiting their personally evolved & reimagined emo-dream sound, ‘Dail’ is sonically a huge dynamic shift away from their debut self-titled EP released in 2021.
‘Dail’, along with its predecessor (‘You Left Your Empty Drink In My Car’) represents a more emotive, fuller and maturer sound from Wetlands. Vocalist Kaito is now delivering with an air of confidence, and the band is working more cohesively, instead of fighting for space in a more raw take (on their debut EP). The balance between guitarist Strazburg’s sparkling and treble-heavy lead, and Kaito’s more crunchy mid-tone rhythm work, helps to create a more effective wall of guitar approach, instead of all blending in, leaving the rhythm section to fully control the bottom end. The intensity that Wetlands have always held is still there, it’s just darker, cleaner, and goes for the rib cage, instead of spitting in your face.
With psychedelic-infused chaos and cosmic effervescence swirling throughout, ‘Dail’ is an energetic empowerment anthem.
Exploring deeper into the track, Kaito says ‘Dail’ touches on themes of friendship breakdowns, learning to navigate the music industry, and the way some people attribute their worst/best characteristics to an astrological star sign.
“The overarching inspiration for the song was the frustration of realising that a lack of confidence and self-respect impacted the way other people would perceive and treat me,” she said.
Screaming true to the meaning of taking your power back with the chorus belting out ‘I won’t stop till I make the cut’ - the song demonstrates just what the troupe are capable of. Pushing beyond their own boundaries, experimenting with thicker textures & idiosyncratic tones - Wetlands are once again letting the fury loose, laying out all the rage and leave you with goosebumps throughout the mayhem.
Straight off the back of their last punk infused track ‘You Left Your Empty Drink In My Car’ which saw their music video aired on RAGE TV and their first interstate festival appearance, Wetlands are back and you’d want to be ready.
‘Dail’ is available now on all streaming platforms, with a secret release party in Brisbane on Saturday 22nd October.
