Melbourne duo, Gilliweed hate to make us cry with alt-indie pop tune, 'H2MYC'
Melbourne duo, Gilliweed bring together a mix of emotive indie, pop, and alternative sounds to deliver the synth-driven track, ‘H2MYC’.
The two-piece, born in the middle of the 2020 lockdown emerged from creative boredom (and with some help from a few fellow musical friends), the duo experimented with blending pop melodies with alternative bass driven hooks and killer synth lines.
‘H2MYC’ (Hate to make you cry) has elements of 80s dark synth pop blended with hooky alternative tones, dirty bass, and breakbeats, all under a hooky emotional chorus.
Made up of members Saskia Clapton (who played bass in the backing band for The Voice Australia in 2017, as well as being co-founder of The Great Emu War Casualties), and Cat Sanzaro (who has opened for Mark Seymour of Hunters and Collectors, and Jon Stevens of Noiseworks), the two formed Gilliweed and were signed to Melbourne’s Sixth Wave Records in early 2021.
‘H2MYC’ is the follow-up single to their debut release ‘High and Dry’ which came out earlier this year, and is the darker flip-side to the lighter, soulful first release, making for an awesome contrast in sounds from the duo.
‘H2MYC’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
