Sydney's Jessey Napa delivers infectious indie-rock single, 'Dixie'
Sydney Based indie-rocker Jessey Napa has released his sophomore single, 'Dixie'. His first release since 2018's 'Stuck Together', 'Dixie' is the first of 4 singles to be released in 2021.
‘Dixie' starts with a soft yet hypnotic guitar part and through the use of subtle synths and ear-catching backing vocals, slowly builds to a soaring final chorus. Working in and out of the studio with producer and engineer Tim Berner as well as mastering engineer Andrew Edgson (Amy Shark, Matt Corby & First Aid Kit), Jessey has taken the time to develop a style that is reminiscent of bands such as Kings of Leon, U2 & Snow Patrol.
On writing 'Dixie', Jessey explains: "I had just bought my first loop pedal and I was building up this new loop using just my guitar and voice. I wanted to keep it super simple but memorable, so I limited myself to one chord progression so I could really focus on the melody and lyrics. Around the same time, I was listening to a song by Ashley Monroe which would always remind me of a girl I was into at the time. Once I decided that's what I wanted to write about, lyrics and melodies poured out of me and Dixie was born"
Along with 'Dixie', Jessey has also announced a new Spotify exclusive podcast series called 'Funny How The Radio Works That Way'. The series will see Jessey chat with other artists such as Sahara Beck, Chymes & Ethan Conway about music.
“Dixie is all about how a song can remind me of a person. It got me thinking about all the other songs that remind me of different people or times in my life. The idea hit me on the drive to work one night that I should chat with other artists about the songs that they associate with different memories and that's what I'll be doing in 'Funny How The Radio Works That Way''
‘Dixie’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
