Catch this wicked collaboration between What So Not and DMA's with new single, 'The Change'
A new collaboration that is fit for your earholes right now comes from the melding of visionary producer What So Not (Chris Emerson), and acclaimed act, DMA’s.
This team-up resulted in the the striking thunderous single, ‘The Change’.
‘The Change’ is dark, slightly unsettling at first, then building with warbling bass, slightly down-paced jungle beats, and the distinct alt-sounds courtesy of the ARIA-nominated DMA’s.
The result you hear is a culmination of a year of built-up frustration thanks to COVID, and discovering their lives on the road, and tastes in music being similar, with Chris and DMA’s’ Johnny Took bonding at the DMA’s studio.
Talking of ‘The Change’, What So Not says, “he first thing we made is pretty much the track you hear. Johnny liked our little idea so much he decided to get the whole band involved a couple of days later we tracked Tommy & brought Mason in for some extra pieces. I feel like this record is one the two of us have always wanted to make but never had the right pieces of the puzzle, until now.”
Johnny Took adds that though they had never met previously, What So Not and he quickly bonded over synths, production gear and a similar admiration for acts like The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, and Underworld.
“Being from such different songwriting worlds really made this a great collaboration for me. Once we got Tommy and Mason on the track after that first day of writing we knew we were onto something special and new for both of us,” he said.
It’s a fantastic mix of the two different genres, and a sure sign we’re in for a long, energetic and sweaty rest of 2021.
