Gold Coast alt rock duo, We All Drive, deliver thick garage groove with latest single, 'Girrawheen Street'
Dynamic alt-rock duo We All Drive are known for keeping their feet on the gas when it comes to their explosive sound that carries weight both musically and lyrically. Continuing to deliver their charged style of two-piece garage rock, the pair are releasing their newest single ‘Girrawheen Street’.
Forming in 2018, We All Drive is the joining force of Joel Sims and Thomas Hayes, who came together to create hard-hitting music influenced by a culmination of rock genres, including garage, alternative and psychedelic. In 2020, the boys released ‘State of Emergency’, a politically motivated anthem that saw them hit a new level in their music; bigger style with a greater impact.
Now, We All Drive continue their forward momentum with ‘Girrawheen Street’, a nostalgic, high-octane track that was made for the stage.
Wasting no time, ‘Girrawheen Street’ starts strong, introducing an infectious driving guitar hook that reappears throughout the song as Joel’s stretching vocals rise above surging combinations of electric guitar and punching drums. Heaving with the push and pull of bold progressions, the song’s last third erupts with an instrumental breakdown, packed with slashing riffs and relentless drumming, itching to be played live.
The simple but heavy hook that carries ‘Girrawheen Street’ brings Joel’s lyrics into focus as he explores his past, comparing it to where he finds himself now. He explains further:
"'Girrawheen Street' is a song that was written in our early days as a band, written to tell the story about my childhood and my current place in life."
We All Drive are putting the pedal to the metal, announcing an EP in the works and upcoming headline shows in Queensland. Built for performing live, the duo will be dishing out their riff-fuelled energy to anyone lucky enough to witness their whiplash-inducing shows in person.
