NEW RELEASE - Dorah Jacson releases new single, 'Lie Awake'
Following up from her recent single "Lurking", Sunshine Coast's Dorah Jacson (a.k.a Kayla Smart) is set to show off her talented songwriting skills again with the release of "Lie Awake". Kayla explains that the song "is about an experience I had meeting someone, and both of us instantly feeling as if we’d known each other forever. I didn’t have much time with this person, and it was a while ago now, so for me the song has a nostalgic, fleeting feeling to it. The whole experience was pretty surreal, like an old-school romantic film. It’s an extra special one because I usually find it hard to write nice songs – I often write when I am hurt or angry as a way of dealing with the pain. This song is for the lovers".
Following the release of her debut single "Away" in February 2019, Dorah Jacson quickly gained rave reviews from Triple J presenters, was featured on Home & Hosed, added to Unearthed rotation, and given the opportunity to open at the Big Pineapple Music Festival on the main stage.
Produced, mixed, and engineered by Nicholas Wilson at Rockinghorse Studios in Byron Bay, and mastered by Paul Blakey Kayla explains that "Lie Awake" began with a more chilled sound influenced by Snakadaktyl, developing into the current upbeat version with the encouragment of Wilson. "The recording process for this one was really fun. I was standing with Nick at the desk a lot of the time in his ear with ideas on the different parts, while he also pushed his own ideas, and it turned into this super cool collaborative thing. It kinda reminded me of those music doccos with the pictures of the artist and producer at the desk looking like they’re conducting a crazy science experiment."
Beginning her musical career by playing solo around the Sunshine Coast and gaining a loyal following through her captivating performances, Dorah Jacson has now gained huge momentum since bringing together Erin Ellis on lead guitar, Lachlan Pearson on bass, and Nick Keogh-Peel. With shows likely to be coming up later in the year, fans will be excited to witness the raw emotion and passion that shines through in each live set, as recently seen at Brisbane's Mountain Goat Valley Crawl.
