Trip-hop lives on as Sky Eater announces new film clip release and festival dates.
Trip-hop is not dead. Its transforming - melting into dub and neo-soul antics with this powerhouse duo hailing from Byron Bay, who are set to bend the boundaries of live and electronic music performance with their latest single and accompanying music video ‘The Rain’.
Sky Eater is the story of two multi-instrumental musical warriors: sax-wielding Chelsea Skyeater, armed with dubbed-out honey vocals, powerfully vulnerable lyrics, luscious keys and dub soldier TK Bassdread with his artillery of beastly bass, beats, vocals and of course more live dubs. The pair started collaborating in 2018 and draw on their shared love of dub, trip-hop and drum and bass along with TK’s extensive production experience to further enrich the serene songs and soundscape that Chelsea creates.
They are often compared to Morcheeba and Portishead, blended with sultry sax tones and reggae jungle sensibilities. They released their debut EP in January 2019 and backed it up with extensive touring throughout Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand’s South Island.
In support of their latest single they’ll be hitting the road again with upcoming festival appearances at Mitchell Creek Rock n Blues (QLD), Island Vibe (QLD), Nimbin Roots (NSW) and Queenscliff Music Festival (VIC).
With praise from Triple J Roots N All’s Nkechi Anele, and a relentless touring schedule, Sky Eater have fast become a favourite for lovers of dub, trip hop and smooth roots.
