The merry band of funk-lords Electrik Lemonade are about to drop their debut album on April 1stand true to their manifesto ‘In Funk We Trust’ it’s brimming with booty shaking, fun-filled tracks that smoothly merge hip-hop, funk, soul and disco sensibilities.

On April 5th the 8-piece kicked off a big national 10-date tour presented by PS Music. Encompassing 5 states and culminating in a big show at Miami Marketta in their home town Gold Coast, the itinerary also features shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Perth.

With pseudonyms like Funky G, Jakey D, Mac Daddy and Biggie and a highly energetic live show, the band are an unforgettable tour de force. Heavily tattooed MC Barney Trub fronts the show, backed by a super tight horn section with synchronised dance moves, a shredding lead guitar man, classic synths and a bangin’ rhythm section. Think Thundamentals meets Jamiroquaiin a 70s lounge bar.

The album has 12 rocking tracks that includes previous singles ‘Applebottom’, ‘Sing With Me’ and ‘We Know This’. Teeming with explosive funk jams wedged alongside smooth soul vibes, it has a shade of almost every era of contemporary music.

‘From childhood memories to the ebbs and flows of love and life itself, there's songs that reflect on hate, rocky relationships and passion, along with straight up party tunes. It's a very diverse album.’ says guitarist Jakey D.

The album was recorded at the acclaimed Rocking Horse Studios in Byron Bay and Blind Boy Studios on the Gold Coast. The album’s producer is Brad Hosking, a multi-talented maestro who moonlights as Amy Shark’s bass player and plays trumpet in the band under the not so subtleguise of B-rad.

With a bio that boasts support slots for John Butler Trio and Mental As Anything and an impressive selection of iconic festival slots including a 2018 Bigsound Showcase it appears Electrik Lemonade are rapidly gaining some traction. The band have brought their a-game with this release and they’re primed to make a solid splash.

The funky Gold Coasters are also backing up an epic run at Bluesfest (after winning the Bluesfest Busking Competition).

No strangers to the Sunshine Coast, Electrik Lemonade are coming back to us to play Solbar on May 18.
