Sunshine Coast's Nong gets all proggy-tinged in new track, 'Stomper'.

Nong is a solo project by Keegan Roche which began in 2012, occasionally featuring guest musicians. The music for Nong is recorded in Keegan's bedroom home-studio on the Sunshine Coast.

Influenced by artists such as Yes, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Pink Floyd and more, Nong's prog-tinged track, 'Stomper' gives sly nods to these influences, with even a subtle Police reference.

Featuring Conor Roche on lead guitar, 'Stomper' is the first track to be released from the ‘Rainbow & Arrows’ E.P, which is set for release in December 2018. This is a follow -up to 2015’s ‘Onward Till The Sun’ E.P.

"The music/lyrics in stomper are based off night terrors that I have had for as long as I can remember. Night terrors are like nightmares except I am walking around and visually experiencing them. Apparently they are common in children, but I never grew out of them, you could say I’m a bit of a Peter Pan in the night terror department.

The instruments are intentionally eerie to reflect the subject matter. I tried to make the keyboards in the verse relay a feeling of uncertainty/mystery by making them communicate with each other in a sort of call and response interaction, it gives off a bit of a creepy 90’s kids-horror vibe, think Goosebumps. I had plenty of fun setting up microphones and playing the pots and pans over the groove at the end of the tune, I was trying to put across an anxious and erratic feeling.

Because I’m recording almost everything myself it has been a very drawn out procedure, I have learnt a lot, and I am hoping to speed up the process for future releases. I’m really excited to put out and share ‘Rainbow & Arrow’".
