Sunshine Coast Music News, January 11 2018

First update for 2018! We're all recovering from the wild week that was Woodford Folk Festival, and knowing that the locals representing at the festival had awesome slots/turn-outs.
Tonight, you can catch touring solo artist, Ben Catley at Solbar. Ben recently supported Tijuana Cartel on a series of shows, and is well worth checking out.  To read on more about Ben, check out this interview here.
This week also sees the Sureshaker team head our way, with Bootleg Rascal, Boo Seeka, Gold Member, and the Shaker DJs bring a full-on funky night to Solbar on Friday, Fragile Animals headlining Solbar on the Saturday, Peregian Originals returning for the new year on Sunday, with headliners The Floating Bridges, Ben Catley, Japan's Kenta Hayashi, and the debut of Shinobi Kin.  In fact, you should check out Shinobi Kin here first (click it), with the track, 'Gravity'.
Congrats to Fight Ibis, Darkc3ll, and The Lyrical for all charting in this year's 4zzz Hot 100, which aired on New Year's Day. Quite a few Coast artists were nominated for this year's chart, and looking at the artists/tracks in the top 100 for 2017, there's a hell of a lot of strong competition, so well done.
Some new artists poking out in the new year already, including Psycho Honeymoon - which sees a collaboration, including Pith Helmet's Adam Morris, and the Smash Brother himself, Jason Johnston, bringing together sludgy stoner rock.  You can have a listen to some live demo's on their page here, and then see them at The Basement in Nambour for Back from the Crypt, which will also feature Absolem, Spew'n, and Moose Knuckle.
If you're heading to Eumundi Markets on Saturday, keep an ear/eye out for touring artist Daryl James. The now-Brisbane local has been touring up and down the East Coast the past month and a half, and his eclectic mix of roots, gypsy, ska and folk is worthing stopping and paying attention to.
Our favourite wordsmith, Kudos is dropping his 'Stop Trying' EP VERY soon...  in fact any time now, so do keep an eye out for it.  We have featured the first two singles from that EP in the past, and definitely keen to hear what else is in store #stoptrying.
And alt/rock drum'n'bass grungy trio, Muules had their turn at live streaming from Prysim HQ this week, playing a 30-minute set, which they hinted also featured their upcoming debut single. More on that in upcoming weeks. Click here to see their set on Prysim's facebook page.
