The Sunshine Coast has become home to some epic music festivals, spread out over the area, with Caloundra Music Festival, Big Pineapple Music Festival and more… and you can add travelling festival The Drop to that list. Photographer Chris Clow went along to capture all the happenings at The Drop Festival in Noosa on February 29.

Sun, surf and music are the fundamental elements to the Sunshine coast lifestyle, so it comes to no surprise when the 3 are fused together, it creates an unparalleled vibrance that is, ‘The Drop festival’.

Following on the waves of ‘the world surf league’, Noosa was a welcomed addition this year to the already successful Australian tour. Over 4000 sun-soaked revellers were treated to an array of Australian musical talent and it kicked off with local artist, ‘Fragile Animals’. Fresh off the release of their new single, ‘only until its over’, the Sunny coast trio were the perfect beginning to an action-packed day.

Sydney songstress ‘GRAACE’ followed with a stellar performance and ‘Kita Alexander’ had punters riding shoulders to sing along with her ARIA hit ‘Hotel’.

The afternoon sun kept the heat turned up but when ‘DZ Deathrays’ took to the stage, the energy levels cranked up to hot! Their powerful brand of dance-punk had the crowd part for a mosh-pit that even had the band proudly acknowledge.

Adelaide rapper ‘Allday’ then wooed the pumped-up crowd with a passionate performance that had some of his emotional fans in tears when he finished.

As the sun set over the ‘Noosa Dolphins rugby grounds’, the energetic ‘Ball Park music’ played the day into the night which was aided by a spectacular festival light show worthy of a solid mention.

It’s been a 4 year break for ‘Boy & Bear’, but this remarkable Aussie band are back and sounding as smooth as ever as they belted out ARIA award winning hit after hit, but the night really belonged to crowd faves, ‘The Presets’. With Electro house dance beats and a splash of colourful percussion, ‘The Presets’ had the entire crowd jumping to every full toned note.

The Drop festival now moves on to the southern states for a new set of waves but not before it left a positive mark on the Sunshine coast. With Noosa now cemented as another leg of its hugely successful Australian tour, we should look forward to seeing the Drop festival back for sunny coasters again next year.
