Augie March playing Eumundi's Imperial Hotel
Indie rock supremos Augie March will be performing in The Brewery at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi on Thursday 24 May as part of the launch tour for the long-awaited new album 'Bootikins', supported by Rowena Wise.
Augie March songwriter and vocalist Glenn Richards says of their upcoming tour, “Augie March set out on the road through May in support of our new album, for our first run in donkeys yonks. Expect all the new but a good dose of the old from our sprawling back catalogue."
The band’s sixth studio album, 'Bootikins' was recorded in Melbourne and Hobart and produced by their dear friend, the legendary Tony Cohen, before his passing.
Richards says: “Tony Cohen wanted to make good on a promise to himself that he’d one day do something with our band. This was news, amazing news, to us, and it still amazes me that we got a chance to work with the man. The moments are ours and we will cherish them, it only suffices to say he got us feeling like; and playing like a real band again after a long interim, and we made some very good music together. I know he felt very much like himself in there and had a blast”.
Following Tony’s passing, a final track was recorded with Cohen’s good friend John Olson at the helm, with the band, Robin Mai and Paul McKercher mixing the record between them.
Augie March's distinctive musical style is directed by Richards. His lyrics often draw critical acclaim for their poetic style, with band's music is described as intricate, lush, and dense, acting as a backdrop for Richards' complex and poetic vocals.
It has been said of Augie March that had they made normal length records instead of the kind that take three days in real time to finish, they’d rival the Stones for output. Maybe, maybe not, but one thing is for sure, they’ve made some long albums. See them virtually match the vitality and swagger of the present day Stones in Eumundi!
